A few days later and still enjoying discovering new short-wave transmitters, and even ones I never knew existed or never before detected on AM and FM. On short-wave it was fun to hear the voice of Russia as loud and clear as anything. It has the unique feature of being the only station so far for which batteries actually improved reception over the AC power supply: At 7,335 kHz, removing the power supply helped by cutting down on static. For all other stations I checked, the slight energy boost of power supply over batteries made for slightly improved reception, though not significant enough to really count.

Excellent Review. The C.Crane version I just got behaves exactly as described, except for one minor difference: The display light-lock feature is not canceled by the pressing of any of the buttons (including the on/off button - which is why you can go away and leave the light on without knowing it). That's good . . . However what does in fact, annoyingly, make the light go off after 8 seconds is any motion of the tuning dial. Tuner dial motion does also turn the display light on, but when light-lock is on, it really should leave them on . . . just one oh-so minor software glitch we can hope gets corrected in future editions.

Other than that, the radio I now have is really as good as the REDSUN model described. Where-ever you order one from make sure it has been thoroughly bench-tested before shipping. I received two defective ones in a row, which DepotEco helped me very speedily return, and all at their expense - Yes DepotEco, you do Rock indeed !!!

But the experience did make me wonder how many lemons are actually coming out of the factory that produces them, no matter what name it is sold as.

I agree about the excellent service at DepotEco. They (who are those guys anyway?) have even found me things that they don't advertise. Shopping takes time and isn't very green. Sometimes in the end it costs less to have an expert shop for you than to go looking yourself. Even on-line shopping takes time. Sometimes I need it yesterday and don't have time to find one. Someone that I can tell what I want by email and get it at a fair price, fast delivery is the best. You Rock! DepotEco! Thank You!

There seems to be no mention of the "Twin Coil Ferrite" antenna which may be a CCrane add on. Since the antenna seems to be CCrane's special claim to fame, aside from labels in English (a plus for me) it would be helpful to know if there is a different AM antenna and if it makes any difference in performance. If all things are equal then who wouldn't want to save a few dollars, but frankly the service at DepotEco.com is so good that in the end I don't think there is money to save shopping around. Information is plentiful and someone answers when I have a question. After eight months of every day using the CCRadio SW purchased from DepotEco every day I have no regrets. The evaluation above seem accurate. The minor issues mentioned are exactly that, minor. Ultimately it is the best portable radio I have owned with much better AM and FM reception on the internal antennas than my other receivers get on the cheesy external antennas that ship with them. The soft case add-on is a little pricey at about $30 but I am glad I bought it, things do get bumped around in the RV and the boat. The internal battery charger and Eneloop batteries (extra) make it possible to unplug and use it where I want. If my CCRadio SW takes a dive some day I would replace it with the same thing unless DepotEco has something better to offer by then.
