In the eighties co-generating power plants powered by natural gas were installed on a similar basis. The building owner shared in the energy savings after the equipment was paid off but didn't have to make the initial investment. The installer owned, financed and maintained the equipment. The predictable income stream from selling electricity to the grid made loans easy to get. The new grid tie controllers available now (like the one at DepotEco headquarters) make the connection much more secure. Solar co-generation is the next generation.
