IATSE Local 442 on Strike at Metropolitan Theatre Corporation (MTC) Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara California.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada (IATSE) IA Local 442 of Santa Barbara and the Tri Counties, hereby announces a Strike against Metropolitan Theatre Corporation (MTC) at The Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara California.
In February of 2009, MTC attempted to throw away a contractual relationship with IATSE Local 442 that has spanned many decades. MTC was brought back to the negotiating table and after almost a year of negotiation, much of which the union considers to have been in bad faith, Metropolitan Theatres has given the local its “last, best, and final” offer.
This offer would result in a minimum decrease in pay of 14%. Also at issue are clauses that would allow management to hire workers at a lower rate without using the union hiring hall.
Santa Barbara IATSE Local 442 holds contracts at the Lobero Theatre, the Granada Theatre, the Santa Barbara Bowl, the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center as well as staffing numerous other independent and corporate events in the Tri-Counties.
Our members have provided quality entertainment to the community for many years. We have literally set the stage for professional productions in which many of your children have performed.
We thank you for your patronage! It is that patronage that provides us our jobs.
Now we ask for your support! We ask that you boycott all live performances at the Arlington Theatre in support of your friends and neighbors who are trying to make a living.
We just want to feed our children, pay our taxes, and have a decent quality of life.
Our projectionists still have a contract with Metropolitan Theatres, and we will in no way impede your access to movies at the many MTC movie houses in town.
Please urge Metropolitan Theatre Corporation (MTC) to return to the table and offer us a fair deal.
Thank You,
